Florida to ATL - "That Song"

Created by Diuto 11 years ago
Mum took us to Florida for the Millennium. I remember not long after watching the fireworks at Epcot when mum said we would soon be going to see Aunty Ngo in Atlanta. Who knew the drive from Florida to Atlanta would be nine whole hours long. I was adamant I'd stay awake for the whole trip too.. If mummy was going to stay up - i would too! Mummy put Nedum, Chidi and Lynds in the back seat and strapped everyone in for what would prove to be the longest trip I've ever made by road. At first we played games, and laughed and joked trying to keep the others entertained but after a while, the noises disappeared in the back and we looked around to see three closed eyes and heads slumped bobbing away as the car made it's way steadily on. An hour or so later we had to take a break as mum was getting tired and had to stretch her legs. We stopped at a petrol station and it was there we found "the" tape. Public Announcement's "Body Bumping". The A side with R Kelly & friends warbling the original version and the B side the two remixes that after the journey was over I'm sure everyone in the car could recite the lyrics back in their sleep. It's a good job mum never did pay attention to lyrics, after turning that tape over and over to listen to both sides and hearing that one song in its various forms a few hundred times, it did make me laugh when she suddenly burst out into song, her finger tapping on the wheel and the chorus of "Yippie yi yo yippie yi ye Wanna bump your body baby" suddenly filling the car. Who knew?? That song will always make me smile and bring fond memories of the trip we all made together. These days we seldom get the chance just to spend that amount of time together in each other's company, I know now time is precious. And the memory of my mummy singing! That is something that can never be erased, I'm sure those who heard her would definitely agree too..! lol
